2011 Canadian Census short form will still be mandatory, long form being debated

A news article from CBC reports that the short form of the 2011 census will still be mandatory, it's the long form's future that is in question.

Last week it was reported that the Conservative government scrapped the long form and made it voluntary. The Liberal government is now protesting that decision (Don't Cut Long Census Form: Liberals, CBC News, 7 Jul 2010).

Will the Liberal government also protest keeping the information private? That remains to be seen but my fingers are crossed!
